“Jackson has done more than any other writer or artist to bind us to our own environment, to make us vitally aware of the significance, beauty, and character of the Land.” - Arthur Lismer
A.Y. Jackson (1882-1974) travelled to the Yukon during the Second World War when he was sent by the National Gallery of Canada to make visual accounts of the construction of the Alaska Highway as part of the Canadian war effort. He was enthusiastic about returning two decades later to resume his sketching activities there.
