Note:
Like his interpretations of quaint Ontario towns, A.J. Casson’s (1898-1992) painting of this Quebec rural settlement employs a similar practiced presentation in its harmonious placement of trees and houses. Using a traditional palette of blue, green, yellow-brown and accents of white, Casson represents a quiet and peaceful setting in a traditional and rustic manner. Here one can imagine a life, old-fashioned and slow-paced. At the end of the road, in between the houses, one can spot the clear blue waters of what may be the Ottawa River. It is a predominantly sunny day with a bright blue sky that even the clouds casting a shadow in the foreground cannot disrupt.
